RANDOLPH, NJ- The Randolph girls soccer team moved their 2020 record into positive territory on Monday Oct. 19 with a 3-0 victory over Pope John on Senior Night. The win put the girls record at 3-2 on the season.

The festivities began with the longtime tradition of each senior addressing their parents and reading a heartfelt message of thanks for all their support.  As is typical, the younger players watched closely and shared both laughs and tears with their soon to be graduated teammates.

“Playing in my senior game felt extremely surreal, almost like it was fake, or some sort of dream,” said Captain Claire Doto.  “Making my speech to my parents before the game helped me to reflect on the reasons I play, one of which is for them. Another one is the feeling you get when you’re surrounded by a group of girls that you can trust to give every last ounce of their effort to honor yours.”

Randolph came out motivated and seemed to get the better of play for most of the first half, although the score remained 0-0 until late in the first when Doto struck for her team off a feed from fellow senior Olivia Mancuso.

I know Olivia can easily play me a great ball across the frame, so I position myself in space running to the goal and meet the ball as it flies in the air,” said Doto.  “All I had to do was get one touch on it, and that’s exactly what I did. I slid it right past the goalie with the tap of my right cleat, which was an amazingly uplifting feeling for me.”

In the second half, the Lady Rams picked up two more goals to solidify the game. The first came on a corner kick from Doto, which was something the team had recently put extra emphasis on during their weekend practices. Off the set from Doto, Erin Finley was able to outmaneuver the defenders to reach the ball and redirect it into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Shortly after, Doto finished off the scoring with her second of the game off a through ball from Elise Soto, which gave her team a commanding 3-0 lead.  Caitlyn Olive earned her second shutout of the year in net for Randolph.
