RANDOLPH, NJ- In the girls Volleyball Morris County Tournament Quarterfinals, the seventh-seeded Lady Rams of Randolph pulled off an upset win in the over second-seeded Montville in an exciting three-set match on Saturday Oct. 14.
Randolph won a close first set 25-23, but the Mustangs of Montville returned the favor taking a 26-24 win in the second set. In a “winner moves on” third set, Randolph earned a trip to the semifinal with a 25-19 final set victory.
“Our team played unbelievable defense and serve receive,” said coach Sheri Data. “They were under incredible pressure and continued to be aggressive and fought for every point.”
Lexi Kemp (setter) had 31 assists (#1 in the state for assists that day) and 16 digs. Coach Data said of Kemp, “She made smart decisions & ran our offense seamlessly.”
Caileigh Cox (outside hitter) had 14 kills (2nd in state for kills that day), 4 blocks, & 21 digs (#1 in state for that day). Stephanie Renna added 7 aces, 12 service points, and 10 kills, while Stephanie Shaw contributed 16 digs
“Looking ahead we have consistently focused on one game at a time,” said Data. “Who are we facing, what are their weaknesses, and how can we capitalize on them.”
The semifinals and finals are all held at Randolph high school, where the Lady Rams will meet third seeded West Morris on Saturday Oct. 21.
“It's always nice to be home with our parents and fans support,” said Data when asked about playing the semifinals at RHS.
