RANDOLPH, NJ--The RHS Fighting Rams and Lady Rams ( boys and girls ) swim teams completed their first meet of the season against Morris Hills on Thursday Dec. 5, at the County College of Morris.  The results were mixed, as the boys dominated with a final score of 130-40, but the girls fell just short by the narrow margin of 80-90.

The Fighting Rams started out strong, with senior Danny Dubij, junior Eric Clemson and sophomores Jonathan Saltos and Niko Fox capturing an early win in the medley relay. Senior Andrew Matjucha followed with a victory in the 200m Freestyle.

As for the girls, the Lady Rams lost a hard-fought battle in the overall meet, but they won various key events.  Seniors Kyra Kayal and Hannah Zuchlag took first and second place in the 200m Freestyle, and Kayal won again in the 500m Freestyle.

Senior co-captains Kayal, Hannah Shortino, Sean Hermes and Danny Dubij expressed their RAM pride regarding everyone's performances.

“The meet against Hills really shows the dedication these girls have towards swimming,” Kayal said. “We might have lost, but everyone put their all into their races and left it all in the pool.”

Hermes added, “Our hard work so far has paid off and I’m excited to see what we are like at the end of the year as we can only go up from here.”

Despite Randolph’s overall loss against the Morris Hills Scarlet Knights, the Rams still saw an encouraging start to the season, putting up a series of best times on both the girls and boys teams and scoring three new Meet of Champion qualifying times for the boys. This was a huge accomplishment for all the swimmers as their hard work training for the season is already paying dividends in just their first meet.

“There was so much to be proud of in our first meet; lists of best times at all grade levels and lots of individual growth since last year,” varsity coach Crystal Hoffman said. “It is exciting to think about what is to come moving forward in our season.”

Hopeful to get a win under their belt, the girls are scheduled to battle St. Elizabeth next, on Tuesday,  December 10, at 2:30 p.m., while the boys take on Roxbury on Monday, December 16, at 2:00 p.m. Both meets are scheduled to be held at County College of Morris.
