RANDOLPH, NJ- Little League Baseballs Major League highlights for the week of May 15-22:
In the East, the Yankees and Marlins are tied for first place.
In the West, the A's are in first place and the Astros in second.
Marlins 11 - Mets 10
The Marlins and the Mets squared off to play one of the most exciting games of the season. Late in the game, trailing by two runs in their final at bat, an RBI double by Zach Sussman and a walk off single by Brandon Pecca rallied the Marlins to victory.
The Marlins trailed big to begin the game falling behind the Mets by six runs early in the contest. The Marlins fought back admirably to take a two run lead after Aidan Lavin entered the game for the Marlins to pitch and held the Mets in check.
The Marlins relinquished the lead, however, in the final stanza trailing by two runs heading into their final at bat. Persistence and grit prevailed as the Marlins scored three runs to win the contest. Other key contributors for the Marlins were Chris Sebastian and Ryan Nobis.
A's 4 - Marlins 2
The A's defeated the Marlins 4-2 behind the strong pitching performance of Eric Recchia (4 IP, 7K's), AJ Cacciacarne (1IP, 2K's) and Paul Recchia (1IP, 3K's). On offense, the A's maximized their five hits led by Eric Recchia (2-for-3, 2RBI's) and Andrew Morgievich (1-for-2, 2RBI's) who each hit solo home runs. Nick Rusak went 1-for-2 for the Marlins.
A's 22 - Cardinals 5
The A's powered their way to a 22-5 win over the Cardinals on Saturday at Heistein Park. The A's offense produced 27 hits including three home runs led by Eric Recchia (3-for-4, 6 RBI's including a Grand Slam), Paul Recchia (3-for-4, 2 RBI's including a solo home run) and Andrew Morgievich (3-for-4 2 RBI's including a solo home run). A.J. Cacciacarne picked up the win on the mound for the A's. Brain Macaluso and Sam Steinfink each went 2-for-3 for the Cardinals.
Pirates 6 – Rockies 2
Randolph’s Major League Pirates topped the Rockies at Heistein, by a score of 6-2 after several lead changes over five innings. The Pirates Stephen Hirschfeld threw four strong innings with seven strikeouts. In the fifth, reliever Brendan Laqui secured the win for the Pirates when he struck out three more batters.
Laqui went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double in the first and a single in the fifth, driving in one run and scoring two.
The Pirates went up for good in the fourth after a single by Nico Eagleson plated Anthony Oh. In the fifth, the Pirates added three more courtesy of solid hitting and smart base running by Jack Sullivan, Jack Barry, Mikey Paladino, Laqui and Jonah Tullman.
Jake Hart of the Rockies pitched four innings, walking none and striking out four. Sean Garbarini and Michael Degen each doubled for the Rockies while James Fusco made some great plays at shortstop keeping the game close.
