RANDOLPH, NJ- The 2020 Randolph Men’s Masters Softball League Champion was crowned on August 21, 2020. Amid COVID-19 concerns all teams adhered to new distancing protocols, including usage of sanitized bats and each team using their own softballs. The delayed and shortened season went off without a hitch, and all players remained safe and healthy.
The season, that typically starts in April, was delayed until early July and resulted in about half the amount of games and was followed by a double-elimination playoff structure.
After completing the regular season with a 6-2 record, good enough for the No. 3 seed, Brooklyn Bagel & Deli took a playoff game 1 loss vs. BMW of Springfield. But they turned around and ran off four consecutive wins from the loser’s bracket vs. The Office, The Randolph Diner, a BMW of Springfield rematch and Pizza Pub, holding all four teams to 10 runs or less.
Brooklyn Bagel arrived in the finals to face Noches de Columbia, the team that had beaten them for the 2019 Championship. Due to the double-elimination format, Brooklyn Bagel still needed two wins. They took the first game, 19-9, forcing a winner take all Championship game. It was a back and forth contest, with Brooklyn Bagel taking the lead for good in the 6th Inning and holding on to a 15-13 win.
Brooklyn Bagel & Deli, formerly sponsored by the NJ Bar & Grill, had previously won titles in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018, making this their 8th Championship in the last 14 years and 5th in the last 7. Team members, as pictured above are:
