Mount Olive – The 9U Randolph Prospects Travel baseball team finished up their Spring season by winning their first Memorial Day tournament championship. The team participated in the Mount Olive Memorial Day tournament, and in a span of four days finished with an undefeated record of 6-0, including two victories on Memorial Day to capture the 9U title.
In the final game of the tournament, the championship game, Randolph stunned undefeated Kinnelon in a comeback that had all attention of the tournament on their game. Down 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and with the crowd chanting "Let's Go Randolph," Randolph would “seize the moment” and rally off 4 runs to win the game. As one tournament official put it, "This was one of the most exciting youth baseball games I've seen in a long time."
"This is a talented group who played with heart and a never give up attitude," said head coach Paul LoVerde. "Most importantly these boys played together as a team which won them a championship and will be the catalyst for their success moving forward." Using timely hitting, precise base-running and a stellar defense, Randolph certainly made their mark on this Memorial Day weekend.
