Randolph Recreation Ice Hockey Revamps Committee, Reveals Important Dates for Upcoming Season

RANDOLPH, NJ-  The 2018 Randolph Recreation Ice Hockey program recently revamped its committee to ensure stability and consistency to the already successful and talented program.  The Recreation Department sent out correspondence to the town at the beginning of April and the following positions were filled through an interview process: Brian DesRosiers -Chairman, Michael Pizzano - Vice Chairman, Hugh Murphy – Secretary, Rich Fuchs – Treasurer, Paul Sharkey – Registrar, Justin Efros – Member, and Steven Kovacs – Member.

The committee plans on having monthly meetings throughout the year to ensure the continued success of the program.

“I chose to volunteer my time to this committee because I love the sport and I want my son to have the same experience that I did growing up," said new Vice Chairman, Michael Pizzano.  "It is great to play on travel teams and all-star teams, but nothing beats playing with your friends and representing your hometown and family.  I grew up playing town rec hockey, went to high school with that group, and will never forget the memories made with them.”

Pizzano, who coaches the MITE rec program, has a son, A.J., on the team, and looks to coach again this year.  Pizzano was astonished at the improvement his kids made last year.

“The most important thing is to have fun," said Pizzano.  "These kids will be great when they grow up and I am honored to assist them with that process over the years.  The program expects potential record numbers this season at all levels."

At their June 4th Meeting, the Committee discussed key dates for parents and players to be aware of.

The dates are:

June 15th -Deadline to submit request to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach to the Rec Department

June 19th -Head Coach and Assistant Coach Interviews for USA Hockey Certified Coaches for the 2018-2019 season

June 23rd -Registration Skate at Aspen Ice at 930a.m.

July 15th -Deadline for early registration

September 9th –Preseason Parent Meeting for all levels at the Rec Center

October 12th -Annual Golf Outing at Crystal Springs

The group is also excited to bring back team photos, an updated website for information, additional secured ice time, updated bylaws, and yearly scholarships for previous town hockey players.

Additionally, the committee selected three winners of their annual scholarship to former players based on essays written about their experience with Randolph Rec Hockey.  The winners were former players Ishan Patel, Jacob Michaels, and Scott Kimicek.  These young men were awarded their scholarship on June 12th at the high school’s awards ceremony.

“We are glad the program had such a positive impact on these players’ development, and that they were able to take so much away from the experience,” said Chairman DesRosiers.
