RANDOLPH, NJ---Glenn Van Etten, Chief Operation Officer for Brighton Cromwell, a Randolph-based small business supply chain integrator providing motor vehicle parts & supplies used in the defense industry sector was named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2014 New Jersey Small Business Exporter of the Year.

In making the announcement, SBA New Jersey District Director Al Titone said that Van Etten was selected for the award based on criteria that include a company's ability to increase its sales and growth as a result of exporting; implement creative overseas marketing strategies, and encourage other Small Businesses to Export.

Originally, the company was founded in 2002 by the late Bill Van Etten as a consulting firm that specialized in helping companies do business with the Department of Homeland Security. In 2004, Bill’s sons Glenn and Rob joined the company and transitioned it into a provider of vehicle parts used primarily by the US military for servicing of its land vehicles.

The untimely death of their father propelled Glenn and Rob into the leadership of the company. Since that time, the brothers persevered and have grown the company 100% by expanding into overseas markets.

“In 2013, New Jersey companies exported $36 billion in goods and services throughout the world,” said Titone.  “This is a global economy and small business owners like Glenn and Rob  Van Etten who embrace it, are finding success and growth beyond U.S. borders.”

“We realize that finding trade financing can prevent small businesses from doing business overseas,” said Titone. “That’s why SBA’s Export Working Capital Loan program is vital to helping small business owners expand their markets.  SBA’s Exporting Working Capital Loan program allows up to $5 million in funding for export transactions from purchase order to collections.”

In November of 2013 Brighton Cromwell was approved for a $4.5 million SBA Export Working Capital line of credit from Citibank to continue growing their international sales.    

Today, the company has export sales in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Afghanistan to name a few. In addition to its headquarters and warehouse distribution center in Randolph, the company has offices in Alabama, California, Florida, South Carolina and the United Kingdom, while employing over 25 people and generating multi millions in annual sales.

“Much of our success can be attributed to a proprietary supply management technology suite, SENDASearch™, which allows us to meet the complex logistics and procurement needs of the U.S. and international military markets with uncompromising precision and reliability,” said Glenn Van Etten.

“The relationships that we have established with numerous manufacturers, leading industrial supply companies and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have also contributed to our success,” he added.  “It has allowed us to successfully manage thousands of contracts sourcing aftermarket parts, kitting solutions and equipment for a variety of tactical military vehicles, aircraft and Naval systems.”

Van Etten was honored on Tuesday with three other New Jersey small business owners at the SBA’s Annual Small Business Week Awards Breakfast.  This year’s breakfast was held at the Rutgers Business School in Newark and was cosponsored by TD Bank, JPMorgan Chase Bank and 1st Colonial Community Bank.
