RANDOLPH, NJ- At 11:23 a.m. on Wednesday The Randolph Township Police Department responded to the lower parking lot of Randolph High School and met with Randolph High School security personnel, according to Randolph Township Police.
The security personnel reported that they had heard a loud noise that they believed to be a single gunshot originating from the wooded area behind the lower parking lot of the High School.
As a result Randolph High School, Randolph Middle School and Center Grove Elementary School were placed in a “Soft Lockdown,” according to Randolph Townships schools, while the police investigated the matter and a search was conducted. Parents were alerted of this via the school’s Honeywell Instant Alert System.
It was reported that the lockdown was initiated as a precaution to ensure the safety and well being of all staff and students.
The Randolph Township Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office k-9 Unit conducted the search. The area behind the High School was thoroughly searched to include a canvas of surrounding neighborhoods backing up to the high school property.
According to Randolph Township Police, it was determined that no credible threat existed at this time and schools were allowed to resume all normal operating procedures. In addition, police assisted with the schools dismissal as normally scheduled.
