RANDOLPH, NJ- In its bid to win the State Sectional Finals, the Randolph High School Boys Varsity Tennis team will face off against Livingston High School the afternoon of Monday, May 18.  The tournament comes following a successful week in which Randolph eked out a win against Montclair at home on Thursday.   In that match, first singles Mitchel Sanders and third singles player Brandon Luong both put away their opponents in straight sets.  Second singles player Justin Gold won in three sets.

The first doubles pair of Stefan Luong and Cooper Seligson had a much harder battle.  In the first set, Luong and Seligson were off their game.  “We weren't playing that well. We missed a lot of shots and just didn't feel on our game,” said  Luong.  “We concentrated and tweaked our game in the second, giving us the advantage there,” he continued.

By carrying those adjustments through to the third set, the pair found success.   After a pressure-filled match that in the end was “extremely satisfying,” Luong now has his eyes set on the finals.

Second doubles Josh Steinfink and Noah Seligson endured a very long match, losing the first set 7-6 in a tiebreak (that the pair lost 7-3) after struggling early on in the match.  The two were down 0-4 to start, but battled back, winning 4 straight games and then holding serve until the tiebreak.  In the second set, the pair won 6-3.  According to Steinfink, the pair became more aggressive at the net.  However they lost their third set 6-2.
