RANDOLPH, NJ- Randolph Memorial Post #7333, Veterans of Foreign Wars ( VFW ) were joined by Mayor Jim Loveys and members of the town council to honor the retirement of over 2,500 American Flags this past week.
The ceremony was held on June 13 at 11am at the VFW Post on Carroll Rd in honor of Flag Day (June 14). Every year, VFW members accept the honor of retiring all the worn, tattered and faded Flags gathered and dropped off in the Post’s Flag collection box located. As part of the ceremony, the Flags are inspected by officers to confirm they are all suitable for retirement.
The Commander approves the findings and the Flags are placed into the burn barrels and properly consumed by flames. After all the Flags are retired and the flames are out, the remaining ashes are buried to complete the proper retirement ceremony.
