WAYNE, NJ- It was the type of finish that makes memories which last a lifetime, with a story that will be told to children and grandchildren decades from now.
It doesn’t get any more dramatic than this: Knotted up at 78 points apiece with Northern Highlands, the Randolph boys swim team sent their 400 Free Relay team out to the pool for the final event of the NJSIAA, North Jersey, Section 1 Public B Finals.
The intensity of the moment raced through the collective nerves of everyone in the building, as the swimmers, their teammates, and fans waited for the firing of the final start gun, as chants of "Let's Go Randolph" echoed off the walls.
The race was close through the first three legs of the relay, until the final swimmers dove in. That’s when Rams Freshman Vinny Marciano took charge, pulling away to reach the wall first, claiming a win in the relay and the meet. The Relay team broke the RHS School record (From 2012) in a time of 3:21.02.
When Marciano, the Rams relay anchorman touched the wall, Randolph erupted in celebration over their dramatic 88-82 victory. Having been crowned the section champs, Randolph now moves on to the next round. The Rams will swim next in the Public B semifinals at Gloucester Tech in Sewell on Feb. 17.
