RANDOLPH,NJ - The following message was distributed jointly by Randolph Township Schools and the Randolph Police Department in the interest of student and community safety.

A family reported late Wednesday night that a female high school student was observed and followed by a white pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Dakota, in and around the area of Heistein's Park. The incident was reported to have taken place at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The truck was driven by what was described as a white male in his 20s or 30s with short "buzzed" hair. The man continued to drive slowly along South Road and Doby Road while following the female student. At no time did the male in question initiate contact with the female student. Ultimately, the male in question left the area as the female student sought shelter.

As a result, students and families are asked to report suspicious incidents immediately as they are occurring via "911" and to always remain aware of their surroundings especially as warmer weather arrives. The community can expect to see an increased police presence in and around the Heistein's Park area during the afternoon and early evening hours.
