RANDOLPH, NJ- This spring, the hills of Randolph will be alive with the Randolph Middle School’s production of The Sound of Music!

From April 26-28, experience the classic musical brought to the stage by the immensely talented and dedicated students of RMS. Directed by RMS teacher, Richard Sackerman, the production promises to be an exciting and fun take on the beloved standard.

Mr. Sackerman, Grace Bua (Maria), Joey Dunne (Captain Von Trapp), and play captains Maria Clemente and Gianna Alessandra revealed some great information about the upcoming production.  After asking about why The Sound of Music was chosen for this year’s school musical, Sackerman replied, “We wanted to do a huge, well-known show at the dawning of the Randolph Performing Arts Center.” To prepare for performing such an iconic show, students in the production watched the 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer to feel its essence.

Although the performers viewed the source material, they say it will not be an exact replica of prior productions. Grace Bua (Maria), said that the play is, “our spin on the classic story.” Joey Dunne, who is reprising the role of Captain Barron Von Trapp, added "The play has different dance numbers and musical numbers than the original.” It seems that all involved in the play are very excited to bring it to the public. Play captain Maria Clemente commented on being in the show, “it’s a good way to see how talented Randolph Middle School kids really are.”

The Randolph Middle School’s production of The Sound of Music will be an event that residents will not want to miss. Being the inaugural musical for the newly renovated auditorium, it will be a truly special performance. Sackerman stated, the spring musical is a “great opportunity to see 120 Randolph students working together on something that makes others happy.”
