HANOVER, NJ- On Sunday, July 23, 2017, Wegmans continued their century-long tradition of providing quality, healthy food and customer service to consumers as they opened their new store in Hanover Township. It was met with remarkable success as hundreds of people visited the store throughout the day. It caused traffic that was backed up all the way to the exit ramp of Interstate 287 to get onto Route 10.
As customers walk into the 113,000-square foot building, they’re first introduced to Wegmans massive produce section. According to Tracy Van Auker, a Media Relations Coordinator for Wegmans, the store began its journey back in 1916 by selling produce off a push-cart. That’s one of the reasons why “as you walk into any of our stores, you’re always going to walk into the produce department…that has stayed very near and dear to our hearts and we consider it to be one our crown jewels and one of the foundations of our company.”
Their produce department alone carries 300 different options to choose from with an additional 100-150 being organic. Right next to their enormous produce department is their “main attraction”; the Market Café. In an in-person interview, Van Auker stated, “One of our focuses is to help our customers enjoy healthy meals fast and convenient...We’re really trying to help our customers put dinner on the table as easily as they possibly can.”
This is where you will find pre-packaged veggies like zucchini noodles and cauliflower rice, pre-packaged meals where you can just place it in the oven and cook it, as well as different “restaurants” like the Burger Bar, a pizza shop, a sub shop, and so much more. In other words, after a long day at work or after shopping around you can just grab a meal and go.
Wegmans is also extremely health-conscious and make sure many of their products have organic ingredients, or, what they call, “Foods You Feel Good About” where there’s no artificial colors, preservatives, or flavors. “Our mission is to help our customers live healthier, better lives through food…We want to introduce them to healthy options [and] whole food options,” Van Auker confirmed.
There is an additional 15,000-square foot store called the Hanover Wine, Liquor, and Beer Store in Wegmans where you can buy a variety of local, out-of-state, and out-of-country wines, beers, and spirits. For the craft beer enthusiast, there’s a section called “Craft Your Own Pack” where, for only $10.99, you can pick any six craft beers to put in a holder and take home to try.
Wegmans goal of being health conscious and their store to table prepared meals for customers are proving their award-winning customer service. Van Auker ended with, “We want people to have a great experience from the moment they park their car all the way to check-out and walking back out.”
