RANDOLPH, NJ- Matthew Horner, of New Providence, NJ, a Computer Science and Mathematics teacher at Randolph High School, was presented recently with an Air Force Association Chapter 195 Teacher of the Year Award.

He is shown with member Lt Col Thomas R. ‘Bob’ Vaucher, of Bridgewater, NJ, WWII B-29 pilot, who led the 525 B-29 Show of Force over the Battleship Missouri during the Japanese surrender on Sep 2nd, 1945.  Matthew Horner was presented with this award for engaging students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) within his class curriculum and as the advisor to the Computer Club. The Award includes a certificate and $500.00 check.

 He has been involved in updating the Computer Science curriculum with Python and Java courses and with an App Development course next year. As advisor to the Computer Club, with over 60 members, he started an eSports team and coached four Air Force Association cyber defense CyberPatriot XI teams. Two of the four CyberPatriot XI teams were seeded in the upper Platinum and Gold tiers.  The Shooting Star Chapter, 195, of the Air Force Association meets monthly on the last Saturday of each month except during the months of June, July, August, November, and December at Charlie Brown’s, Chatham Township.
