RANDOLPH, NJ- Randolph Middle School student Amelia Diaz was honored with an award by the MAYO Performing Arts Center for Outstanding Vocalist. She received the award at the Sara Evans concert after being nominated by her teacher Ann Kelly for her exceptional vocal abilities.
Amelia is highly involved in the performing arts at RMS. In addition to choir, she is currently in rehearsal for the spring production of Mary Poppins where she will play the role of Annie. Although she is only in middle school, Amelia has her sights set on the Broadway stage. It has always been her dream to perform professionally, and she challenges herself in the hopes of one day achieving that goal. Her favorite musical, Once on this Island, won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 2017 and deepened her love for music.
Amelia enjoys singing “Waiting for Life” from the production because it shows off her impressive vocal range. While we have no doubt Amelia can achieve her dream of seeing the Broadway stage if she continues to apply herself, she has also demonstrated an interest in the medical field. She has thought about pursuing a career as an obstetrician because of her passion for helping others.
