RANDOLPH, NJ- Lauren Madalian, Randolph High Sxhool class of 2018, has committed to play Division 1AA Rugby for West Chester University in PA. Madalian was also accepted into the colleges honors program.
During her time at RHS, Madalian earned Varsity letters in Field Hockey, Basketball & Soccer. Her first love was soccer when she began to play in first grade. Eventually, Madalian went on to become part of the NJ Olympic Development Team for 3 years and even played as part of the US girls (12 State) Region 1 Team in Vancouver, Canada, in 2016.
Madalian;s younger brother Nick had played rugby for years and it stirred an interest in her to try Girls Rugby in August 2016 and she loved it, according to her mother Doreen Madalian. As a member of the Morris Rugby U18 girls team she played throughout the Northeast, and has had the opportunity to play rugby in Las Vegas, NV, as well as in Girls Rugby Nationals Tournaments in Indiana (2017) and Tennessee in ( coming up in May 2018 ).
Often asked if Rugby is a rough sport for girls, Lauren expressed." In Soccer I've endured a concussion, a broken jaw & stress fracture of my lower back. In Field Hockey I received 10 stitches to my lip during a game this Fall '18. So far, so good with rugby ~ no injuries to report."
