RED BANK, NJ: For those who love history, or want to learn more about our local area’s past, there’s a terrific event coming up.
Rik van Hemmen, President of the Navesink Maritime Heritage Association (NMHA), will be giving a public presentation entitled; “Guns Blazing! The War of 1812 and the New Jersey Shore.”
van Hemmen will walk through the stories behind some of the epic naval battles and changes that took place in Monmouth County during and after the 1812 War.
The stories are based on the paintings being shown at an excellent exhibit (of the same name), at the Twin Lights Historic Lighthouse in Highlands.
The naval battles of the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain are beautifully visualized in fifteen large paintings by the renowned Dutch marine painter, Marteen Platje.
