The VPA was founded in 1983 and provides a four-year career path for serious budding artists who possess proven aptitude, ability and passion for the visual and performing arts.   According to the RBRHS website, “…the goal of the VPA is to inspire students to pursue careers and/or admission to competitive colleges/conservatories of fine arts.”

Growing throughout the decades, the VPA now offers these majors: Studio Art, Commercial Photography, Creative Writing, Performance Art, Dance, Drama, Interactive Media, Instrumental Music including; Brass, Percussion, Woodwinds, Strings, Guitar, Piano, Harp and Vocal Music.

RBR VPA students took away outstanding honors at the 2019 Virginia International Music Festival which offers student performance opportunities for marching bands, concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, choirs and dance teams.  The Festival was held from April 25th through April 28th in Norfolk, VA.

Participants came from high schools throughout the United States and the following RBR tributes included were:

Women’s Choir - Gold First Place

Best Overall Vocal Soloist – Catherine Creed, Red Bank

Grand Champions – RBR Mixed Concert Choir

Concert and Jazz Performers under RBR band teacher Kevin Pryor:

Jazz Band – Gold First Place

Best Overall Instrumental Soloist – David Grant, Shrewsbury
