Pilates           (pɪˈlɑːtɪz)

A physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates called his method "Contrology".

What kind of exercise is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements.  Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance

Is Pilates a good workout?

Pilates has a strong mind/body connection, so you may like it if you enjoy yoga but need a more intense core workout.  Pilates is great for strengthening and toning with a focus your core and for increasing your flexibility

How many calories do you burn in an hour of Pilates?

A 30-minute session at an intermediate level burned 180 calories, and continuing the workout burned an additional 90 calories each 15 minutes

Is Yoga or Pilates better for you?

One of the main differences between Yoga and Pilates is that Yoga can be used for improving the flexibility of the body and it will also gradually increase the flexibility of your joints.  Whereas Pilates focuses on trying to relax muscles which are tense and provide strengthening of the numerous muscles of the body
