RED BANK, NJ:  A major outside renovation is taking place at 70 and 72 Monmouth Street, home of the Bagel Oven and the Nearly New Shop

The front façade is being stripped of its brick and concrete, exposing the estimated eighty-year-old wood lathe strips.

Taking a break from swinging a sledge hammer, Jim Whelan owner of IDR Construction, said, “The roof had a major bow to it and the construction certainly does not meet todays standards.  We saved the large 200 pound “W” emblem that topped the roof line.  We’ll see if it can be replaced.”

Whelan said the frontage will have new windows installed and be plastered with a stucco texture similar to the surrounding buildings.

Completion is estimated at six weeks, three if the weather is favorable.

TAPinto Red Bank was told by the IDR Construction workers that the Bagel Oven and the Nearly New Shop will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
