YMCA Members and Community,
Hearts are heavy at our Y over the tragic killing of George Floyd and countless other lives lost and oppressed due to the social injustices that continue in our world today. Our prayers are with Mr. Floyd's family and the Minneapolis community as they navigate this tragedy, and those who choose to peacefully, safely protest in order to impact positive change.
More than ever, the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County remains steadfast in our mission of strengthening foundations for all adults, children and families to help them reach their fullest potential.
We stand up in solidarity with our employees, members, community partners, and all we serve to eradicate systemic racism and support equitable opportunities in our world.
Communities are strongest when we come together. We encourage the voices of our Y staff, engagement of youth in civic programs, dialogue that leads to healing, actions that connect people to common ground, and support for leaders and policies that drive progress for a better us.
In the words of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word."
We are, and always will be, Stronger Together.
