RED BANK, NJ – The curbing is poured, the brick pavers set, and the trees are planted.
We’re looking at the finish line for the English Plaza parking lot.
Large steel rods were pounded into the leveled dirt and set into a straight line where a heavy-duty string marked the width for the asphalt road paver.
Sub-contractor S. Brothers of South River, NJ, has the paving job. They started prepping yesterday and the men are laying it down this week.
A call to the primary contractor, Seacoast Construction, E. Brunswick, NJ, said that the paving, “Should be substantially done by the end of the week.” The person would not provide their name.
Road paving is an interesting choreograph of large dump trucks lifting their hydraulics to fill the asphalt paver, which then moves slowly forward creating a new road surface. The workmen then move the side excess readying it for the next parallel run.
In the background a heavy-duty roller compacts the asphalt along with a fellow on a hand-tamper machine making it a solid surface.
I worked one of those tampers in my younger days - it shakes your guts out.

And don't forget, the retail stores in the English Plaza Parking lot are open so please patronize them!
