RED BANK, NJ: In early August 2019, the Marion Street Community Garden was closed because of possible lead contamination.

We reached out to Ziad Shehady, Business Administrator who responded via email informing us that there has been no remediation activity yet.

According to Shehady, the garden will require more testing to confirm the exact area of contamination that needs to be remediated.

“That testing requires funding first which is to be considered as part of the 2020 budget.  As you can imagine, this was not an anticipated expense or project in 2019.  After it is funded, then the testing can begin,” said Shehady.
