RED BANK, NJ – What a race!

With over 1,500 runners participating, the second annual Red Bank 5K Classic took place on Saturday, June 15th, in downtown Red Bank with near perfect weather conditions; cool with a light breeze.

A huge surprise and victory in the Womens division went to 8 year-old Ava Johnson of Haddonfield, NJ, with a First Place time of 18.38.  Coming in second was Kiera Russo, Tinton Falls, NJ 18.50 minutes, and Katie Desiere of Ocean Township at 19.18 minutes.

When asked how she liked the race, Ava sweetly replied, "I liked it because..., I won it it, and I just love running!"

The top three men's finishers were; First Place Dave Favorito of Galloway, NJ, Second Place Paul Jacobson of Staten Island, NY and Red Bank's own Meza Soriano finishing Third.  Their finish times were 16.45, 17.00 and 17.21 minutes respectively.

A common remark by the racers was the high marks given for the professionalism and organization of the race.  "It was a very well marked course and very, very well organized," said Favorito, with Jacobson commenting, "I really liked the course, the hill was pretty intense, we were fighting to get up that."

The Classic 5K was a USA Track and Field sanctioned race and certified course, as well as a USATF 2019 Grand Prix Event.  For complete race results, click HERE

Angela Courtney, owner of Sweetest Sin Boutique, and a founder of the Classic 5k race, said, "We exceeded our expectations yet again, over 1,500 runners, more vendors, more food, more fun and a beautiful day for the Red Bank Classic 5K."

The race was the combined efforts of the Red Bank Business Alliance and the Red Bank RiverCenter and is supported by over 60 local businesses.  Proceeds from the race benefit the youth programs at the Red Bank Family YMCA and the Red Bank Department of Parks and Recreation.

Marine Park was the site of numerous health and wellness companies showcasing their products and services.

The racers and their friends and families enjoyed libations afterword at the Red Rock Tap + Grill.

TAPinto Red Bank partnered with Frank Farrell, CEO of Custom Video Productions where we arrived (real) early and set up time-lapse cameras on Broad Street and at  Red Rock Tap + Grill overlooking Marine Park.  Frank also shot some great footage flying above with a drone camera.

We'll let you know when these are up.

Also, a big shoutout to Johnny's Pork Roll for handing out free porkroll, egg and cheese sandwiches to us and the set up crews.  Delicious!
