20th Legislative District Assemblywoman to Receive Champion for the Common Good Award at United Way Annual Event

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, United Way of Greater Union County will present Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, of the 20th Legislative District, with the 2018 Champion for the Common Good award at its 2018 Annual Celebration event. 

“I am incredibly humbled to be chosen to receive this award,” stated Assemblywoman Quijano. “I work hard every day to fight for the common good of our communities and the pursuit of our shared values. It takes a team of dedicated community members working together to achieve the successes we have reached – and I dedicate this award to everybody who has worked one way or another on our various community projects and legislative initiatives.”

Assemblywoman Quijano is the first woman ever to represent the 20th Legislative District, encompassing the city of Elizabeth, Hillside Township, Roselle Borough and Union Township.  Earning the reputation as a champion legislator, she tackles issues facing families in everyday life, fighting against inequality and challenges people face regardless of race or culture. Assemblywoman Quijano is Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and a member of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and the Assembly Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee.

Assemblywoman Quijano currently practices law as a municipal prosecutor for the city of Elizabeth. She earned her B.S. in Management from Rutgers University and her Juris Doctor degree from the Rutgers School of Law in Newark. She is admitted to the bars in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as the United States Supreme Court.  She currently chairs the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators’ Delegation on Racial Equity, is a member of the NAACP, the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey.

The 2018 Annual Celebration will be held at the Gran Centurions in Clark, NJ, on Wednesday June 13th from 6-9 p.m.  Assemblywoman Quijano will be amongst 16 honorees including, the Honorable Sergio Granados, Chairman of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, recipient of the

Community Impact Trailblazer award; Ravenell Williams, President & CEO of Plainfield YMCA, recipient of the Dell Raudelunas award and; Charles and Mary Goodfellow, recipients of the Legacy of Service award.
