ROSELLE, NJ - Book lovers from all over came to Roselle on Saturday afternoon to pick up real treasures from local authors at the 4th Annual Independent Author’s Book Expo (IABX).

The expo creates an atmosphere where independent authors introduce their stories to mainstream audiences. The event also included workshops for aspiring authors, a children’s corner for kids to participate in fun crafts, read-a-longs, and other activities.

Over thirty-five authors displayed, sold, and entertained many with their stories. The authors took turns at the podium talking about their works to the audience.

Event creator, Renaee Smith who is an independent author herself, has published six books, two cookbooks, and four children books. Smith started the IABX event in 2014 to help other independent authors have a platform to share their works and to connect with readers. From there, its popularity has soared drawing many from all over to come see for themselves what new books are out there or to learn how to get started themselves as an author.  It was also an opportunity to meet the authors and even get your books autographed!

“I wanted to help address the challenges faced by many independent authors," said Smith. Smith also touted the many supporters that jumped in to help to make the event possible stating that, “ this couldn’t have been possible without all of our volunteers and supporters, and I thank them all for their help to make this event possible.”

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

I didn't get my Composition and Literature teacher at Montclair State College at all. A crusty old man with a dour disposition, Mr. Smith always seemed angry and rude. He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.

The German Girl

The German Girl by Armando Lucas Correa (Washington Square Press, 2016)

For each of the twelve million victims murdered during World War II there is a gutwrenching story to be told. I have read hundreds of memoirs, biographies, plays, and novels that recount the stories of the martyrs; some are exceptional, some are fair.
