ROSELLE, NJ - Abraham Clark H.S. Principal Rashon Mickens honored several people during the February staff meeting this past Monday. Recognized were student and staff members of the month, as well as the monthly community hero.
Student Asaad Hamid was honored as student of the month. Hamid, a senior at the high school, was recently accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy.
Hamid was also a member for 3 years in the Concrete Rose Project, an organization that works with students in the schools to provide a broad spectrum of community, social, and educational services that empower students with tangible life skills.
“We are very proud of Asaad,” said Donna Eleazer, Vice President of the Concrete Roselle Project. “It is a major accomplishment and we wish him success in his endeavors.”
In an exclusive interview with Matthew Hersh, Hamid spoke about who helped him along the way, and getting accepted into the famed U.S. Naval Academy.
Also recognized at the meeting were Jamie Condrack who was selected as this month's “Staff Member of the Month” and Dr. Andre Mitchell a former Roselle student who received the “Community Hero Award” for donating a Xerox copy machine and 25 new Apple computers to the school's computer lab.
Mitchell spoke to the group thanking his teachers. “I’m so proud to be standing among you guys now. I know as educators things get hard, people don’t think that you guys make a difference, but I stand here as an alumni to say that you really do!”
As Mitchell finished speaking about the new Apple computers he is donating to the school, he looked over to Asaad Hamid and said, “You know what, I am going to give him a laptop.”
