ELIZABETH, NJ - Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage gave details of the ongoing investigation in the explosion that left one young man dead, two critically injured and at least 10 others sent to local hospitals at a press conference Friday afternoon.
The explosion happened Wednesday morning at 1035 Magnolia Ave. in Elizabeth. The 2.5-story house collapsed, and adjacent houses that also incurred significant damage will also have to be destroyed.
According to the mayor's comments, an investigation is in progress and a gas leak from a possible illegal hookup or a possible gas dyer that was never capped correctly could be the cause of the explosion, but they are still investigating. The mayor's comments in their entirety are below:
