ELIZABETH, NJ — About a dozen members of a local Facebook group dedicated to doing good deeds delivered hand-made cards and lunch to the Union County Sheriff’s office Wednesday.
“It was really great. We were really touched,” Union County Sheriff Joe Cryan said. “Our officers were deeply appreciative of the kindness, the cards, the signs and the sandwiches. We were grateful that folks took the time to show they appreciate us today.”
Cards from the community were collected at the Little Free Library on East Broad Street in Westfield and at a member’s home in Clark.
“Today was especially sweet for the kids,” said April Stec, a member of the group from Westfield. “They got a behind-the-scenes look at how the officers monitored the community and that it is a 24/7 job.”
The children got to take home hats and t-shirts from the sheriff’s office, she said.
“We are so happy to come together as a community and show the men and women that lay their life on the line for us that we appreciate them,” Stec said. “It's not a holiday or any special occasion. It's just that now, more than ever, they need our support. They need to know that no matter how the media or YouTube videos portray them that they are still the good guys in our eyes.”
