This evening of features, not only designer handbags, but an array of items that adds to the festive atmosphere – and it is all for a good cause. The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless plays a very public role combating homelessness. The non-profit operates a number of programs aimed at combating homelessness, such as Operation Warm Heart, a winter shelter program for the chronically homeless. In addition, ECHH administers homeless prevention and emergency shelters, hospitality houses that have housed more than 150 working families, ESL and Community Education classes, and Bernice’s Place, an after-school and summer program for homeless and near homeless children, the only one of its kind in the state.
In its more than three decades of existence, the Coalition has prevented homelessness for more than 15,000 households and found emergency shelter for more than 10,000 families, but it is a problem that continues to grow. In 2018 alone, the ECHH helped 850 families throughout Union County to find affordable housing.
“This is the first Designer Bag Tricky Tray that the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless has ever hosted,” explained Linda Flores-Tober, ECHH executive director. “We are looking forward to a fun evening for everyone, but also to introducing ourselves and our work to those who may be unfamiliar with it. The support we receive will help us to continue to provide safe, affording housing for this most vulnerable population.”
