SPRINGFIELD, NJ - On Monday, May 22, Union County resident and Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi will speak about her new book Northern Women in the Aftermath of the Civil War at the Springfield Free Public Library.

The book is a sequel to the New Brunswick and the Civil War: The Brunswick Boys in the Great Rebellion, which tells the story of the men of the Hamilton family who served in the Civil War. The new book concentrates on the struggles of the women in the family.  They dealt with dead or disabled husbands, sons, alcoholism, drug addiction and post-traumatic stress in the years following the war.

Dale Spindel Library Director said, “It is always a delight when a library gets to host an author who is from the community.   I heard Mrs. Rajoppi speak when her first book came out so I know this is also going to be a fascinating program about a little publicized aspect of the Civil War.”

The program is open to the public and starts at 7 p.m. at the Springfield Free Public Library on 66 Mountain Avenue.  Mrs. Rajoppi will do a book signing after the discussion.
