WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Detective First Grade Eric Lieberman’s watch ended on May 22 when the 47-year-old suddenly and unexpectedly. Now a fund has been established to raise money for his two teenage boys.
“This is a tough time and we’re just trying to do what we can, trying to show support for our fallen officer, ” said Officer Jeff Johnson, who is responsible for the fund. “This is a brotherhood and Eric spent 27 years of his life with us.”
Lieberman was affectionately known as “The Dude” and memorial t-shirts and sweatshirts bearing this nickname are currently for sale. All proceeds will benefit his sons Tyler and Eric.
“Obviously selling t-shirts is the least we can do, but we believe every little bit helps. We want to support his family, help with school costs and whatever else,” Johnson said.
Memorial shirt purchases and donations can be made via cash or Venmo. If paying with cash, order forms can be picked up and submitted at the Westfield Police Station. If using Venmo, size and shirt type should be included in the payment description and sent to 908-445-5854 (@thedude07090).
T-shirts are $25 and sweatshirts are $40. Any questions can be texted to 908-445-5854.
