ROSELLE/ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Halloween for 2016 has officially come to an end. With so many events it was both a trick to get to all events, and a real treat to see all of the great costumes.

To round out the events, St. Joseph School in Roselle had their Trunk or Treat on Monday night in the parking lot behind the school. Lots of cars were decorated and people giving out candy. They had music, games and a dance contest!

The last event is by far the most popular and well known, “Trick or Treat on Bender Ave.” in Roselle Park. What looked to be a few thousand people showed up, most in costume, roamed the several block area. While the children were getting their candy, this event is more of a social event for the adults, many of which were in costume. The residents once again did not disappoint with some incredible decorations. With the presidential election coming up next week, there of course had to be a couple of Trump/Clinton displays.

Be sure to check out our photo gallery of costumes.

Politics IS Government in Union County

April 22, 2018

After Bruce Paterson of Garwood was stopped from speaking at the Union County freeholder meeting of March 22 regarding the politics behind refusing to give the party line to a sitting freeholder I thought this brazen suppression of free speech could not go unanswered. Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (Citadel Press, 1970)

How does a reviewer do justice to a book called “the great American novel”? I first read Johnny Got His Gun during the Viet Nam war, when young people, nationwide, were protesting fighting in a war that was a senseless waste of life; a war in which the United States had no business participating.

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

I didn't get my Composition and Literature teacher at Montclair State College at all. A crusty old man with a dour disposition, Mr. Smith always seemed angry and rude. He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.
