ROSELLE, NJ - Roselle Democratic Commitee Chairman Rev. Reginald Atkins is the new Mayor of Roselle. He was chosen by the Roselle Borough Council to succeed Mayor Christine Dansereau at Thursday night's Council meeting. Dansereau resigned in July because of health reasons.
On Facebook, Atkins thanked the Council for selecting him and the community for its support.
"Thank you for selecting me to serve as Mayor last night. I am truly honored by the trust everyone has instilled in me and I am very excited to get to work. I know that I have to navigate our Borough through a crisis and promise that I will give it my all with my wife Dr. Cynthia Atkins by my side and God leading the way."
He continued, "I am thrilled to be working with such a great group of elected officials from Roselle and the many different leaders in Union County. I would like to thank and applaud my friend Donald A. Shaw for his commitment to the Borough of Roselle and our shared vision of building a collaborative Roselle. I fully support him and the journey ahead."
Atkins wrote, "To the many professionals that work at our Borough who continue to serve and provide needed services to our community, THANK YOU! It's easy to see why Roselle is such a great place to live. We are a community of people who, regardless of our political beliefs, care about each other and the town as a whole. I look forward to building our Borough and making it a destination place to call home."
He concluded, "My tenor as Mayor will be about collaboration, tearing down bearers, listening to questions, concerns and ideas and I pledge to continue to seek out your input and be guided by God. You can count on me to find innovative ways to communicate so that we can work together to "Keep Roselle Strong and Safe". Once again... THANK YOU!"
