On Thursday, April 8, 2021, Brandon Bernier officially launched his campaign for re-election as Roselle’s 2nd Ward Councilman. In his two-plus years on the Borough Council, Bernier has quickly established himself as a dedicated public servant, willing to do the research and put in the hard work to deliver results to his constituents. That dedication makes him the right choice for residents of the 2nd Ward.
“Three years ago, I promised a plan to bring positive change to Roselle, and now we’re starting to see what we’ve been able to accomplish together,” says Bernier. Topping the list of his achievements on Council, there has been no municipal tax increase in his two years as Finance Committee chair. Bernier also spent well over a year advocating for the Borough to switch into the NJ State Health Benefits Program and helping to negotiate with the various employee unions to finalize the deal. That move saved $400k in the last two months of 2020 and is projected to save Roselle roughly $2 million in 2021. “This isn’t a one-time shot in the arm to keep municipal taxes flat for a year or two, but a sustainable cost-savings measure, backed by the data, that will give us the flexibility we need to build a strong financial foundation that helps to stabilize taxes for years to come,” Bernier explains.
Councilman Bernier was part of the team that recently helped secure a $5.5 million state grant to renovate and greatly expand the Roselle Public Library, once again taking every opportunity to deliver for the Borough without breaking the bank. In the 2nd Ward specifically, Bernier has focused on quality-of-life issues like paving roads, increased code enforcement, and throughout the pandemic, connecting residents to vital resources. After repaving major stretches of Chandler and Harrison Ave. last year, the 2nd Ward is slated to see another 2+ miles of roads repaved in 2021. Residents know that when they call, Brandon answers, and he responds to their issues immediately.
Bernier has been a lifelong resident of Roselle, born and raised in the 2nd Ward. A graduate of St. Joseph the Carpenter School and Roselle Catholic High School, he went on to obtain both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Engineering from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. Bernier currently works as a Project Engineer at EJC Systems, Inc., an engineering firm specializing in the custom design and fabrication of automated test equipment, and he has spent the last two years taking an engineer’s approach to finding creative solutions to improve the Borough.
His record earned him the backing of the Roselle Democratic Committee this year, and Bernier looks forward to working to bring the Borough together. He added, "We’re all here trying our best to build a better Borough, and we can certainly do more together than we can do on our own. Knowing where the Borough has been and where we’re headed, I’ve never been more optimistic about the future of Roselle than I am today.”
