ROSELLE, NJ - After a request late last week by some Roselle Democrats urging the Roselle Democratic Chairman Reginald Atkins to step down from his position, Chairman Atkins fired back on Wednesday by filing charges against Mayor Christine Dansereau. Atkins accuses the Mayor of harassing him and attempting to intimidate him by using public resources for the past 3 years.
“I have today filed several complaints against Mayor Christine Dansereau for her repeated harassment of me and my business over an extend period of time. Mayor Dansereau has misused Borough resources by ordering Borough personnel to conduct investigations of my business based on her unfounded claims, and each time, these claims were proven to be baseless. These political shenanigans are nothing more than deliberate efforts to intimidate me and cause my family and I financial and emotional distress. Using taxpayer dollars to fund a campaign of political retaliation violates the law and violates my rights as a citizen; as such, I have no choice but to seek judicial intervention,” Atkins said.
The criminal charges filed are Harassment, Crime of Corruption of Public Resources, Retaliation for Past Official Action, False Reports to Law Enforcement Authorizes and Crime of Official Deprivation of Civil Rights.
We reached out to Mayor Dansereau who was unaware of the complaint at the time.
“I am at a loss of how to respond to a lawsuit that has yet to be served on me,” said Dansereau. “Using scare tactics, the press, and disseminate false information is a common theme in Councilman Atkins’ approach to government. I think the fact that Councilman Atkins has sought to bring this matter to the press and the public prior to completing the basic and preliminary step of serving me is indicative of the leader and elected official he has been.”
