ROSELLE/ROSELLE PARK, NJ - A chase for a burglary suspect in Roselle Park ended in Roselle with the apprehension of Leon Holston, 47, of Newark.
On Thursday, Jan. 15 at approximately 2:53 p.m. Roselle Park police responded to an apartment complex on E. Westfield Ave. for a report of a suspicious male who had entered the complex, was confronted by the superintendent, and quickly fled the area on foot.
Roselle Park Police Patrolman Marino located and made contact with the Holston, who led him on a foot chase through neighboring yards into Roselle and hid from in a nearby yard.
With the assistance of the Roselle Police, Holston was apprehended, but during the foot chase and apprehension, a Roselle officer sustained injury to his hand.
After an investigation regarding the criminal trespass and resisting arrest, it was discovered that Holston had burglarized a washing machine located in the same apartment complex, damaging the coin box and removing approximately $15 in quarters which were recovered on him.
He was charged by Roselle Police with resisting arrest and obstruction, bail set at $25,000. He was also charged by Roselle Park police with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and resisting arrest, bail was set at $15,000. Holston was ultimately lodged in the Union County Jail.
