ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Roselle Park 24/7 announced its newest community spirit program, the “Roselle Park Christmas and Holiday Lights Contest” this week. The contest was started by a local group of volunteers who want to raise the community spirit and pride and make Roselle Park a destination for residents and visitors during the month of December and the New Year.
“In December of 2015 I posted a comment on the Roselle Park Facebook forum. Roselle Park is known for Halloween. People from all over come to see the houses all decked out in scary and spooky decorations. I thought, if we can put the effort as a community, to be the talk of the area for Halloween, we could surely put that same effort into the holiday season,” said Roselle Park resident Jayme Negron. “There was such an overwhelming amount of interest and support in the thought of the holiday light display contest. I committed my time and energy on this idea. Joe DeIorio and I established a Facebook page and he has been a major help with getting this going!”
Negron went on to say, “I’ve met so many people and have made some news friendships all because of this one post on Facebook. My family moved to Roselle Park in 2013 and fell in love with it. There is so much potential for our little community to be the best small town in New Jersey. I hope this little contest grows every year and more and more residents participate. It would be wonderful to walk through a magical winter wonderland right here in our own neighborhood.”
“This is a great example how newer residents can come up with an idea and get involved,” said Roselle Park 24/7 Executive Director Joe DeIorio. “It was a simple post and a willingness to make it happen that we have a great community program underway.”
