ROSELLE PARK, NJ - The Roselle Park community has already established themselves as a community that embraces everyone with the many cultural events held at the Casano Community Center, the Roselle Park Loves Arts events and many other community events throughout the year. On Wednesday evening the town took another step by introducing LGBT business owners to Roselle Park by hosting the NJ LGBT Chamber of Commerce meeting at Dowling's Irish Pub

The event was a group collaboration by Councilman Joe DeIorio and his husband Councilman Thos Shipley, (who as far as we have found, are the first gay couple to sit on the dais at the same time in the country), and Co-President Laurie Seliger and Dori Eitelberg Vice President of Marketing representing  the NJ LGBT Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Carl Hokanson, Councilman William Fahoury, Councilwoman Jayme Lynn Negron along with others from the police dept, residents and local business owners were also on hand to share their support.

“I had the fortunate opportunity to meet with the NJ LGBT chamber last year,” said DeIorio. “Whether you're an LGBT business owner or an ally, our goal is to show the business Community inside and outside of Roselle Park that we are a welcoming community and we encourage investors to take a look at Roselle Park as a place to be on the ground floor of something worth their investment. I look forward to more of these types of business organization networking opportunities from this and other Chambers throughout the year.”

“Our community is your community,” said Mayor Carl Hokanson. “Whatever we can do to bring people together to get businesses, and ideas, together is a great opportunity.”

Councilman Shipley stated, “This is a great opportunity to come together. I’m glad this chamber is here, its time to show off Roselle Park. I know for myself, one thing about the gay community is that we are known for going in and taking things that nobody else wanted, and making them into something everybody wants.”

Shipley went on to say,  “I come here and I see potential, I come here I see quaint. You know me, where ever I have lived you just go in there and fix it up, and why do you fix it up? Because I live there! Because it’s my home, that’s why you fix it up. And what do we make it? “FABULOUS!”

The evening also offered an opportunity for everyone to walk down a few doors and take a tour of the now empty Wells Fargo Bank to see behind the scenes of what a 1930’s bank looks like.  Participants could walk into the vaults and look at the safe deposit boxes and get a real feel for this very old building and the space it provides for a future business since is now up for sale.

"I am excited about showing off the potential of Roselle Park, said Negron who is currently the Chairwoman of Commerce for the council. “Events like these are a great way to showcase our town to people who may normally just drive through and not stop and appreciate the charm we have to offer. I am hopeful that more networking events will be a catalyst for positive change and impactful relationships that will boost our business community to great heights. Roselle Park is a friendly, accepting and fun little town and I love any chance to showcase that.”

Also showcased at the bank was artworks from local artists as part of the Roselle Park Arts committee. Each window featured works of art with the artist's names beside it. The artwork will be a part of the Spring Art Show that will be held at the bank.

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani, a New York Times best selling author, was recommended to me by a young woman who actually came from the town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, the place where the novel is set. “The author did such a wonderful job of describing how the town actually is,” said the young lady.
