ROSELLE, NJ - Roselle’s Arminio Field Park will be getting a new look with the help of a $1 million Green Acres loan that was approved by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Garden State Preservation Trust.
The 2017 award is composed of a $100,000 20-year, interest-free Green Acres loan and a matching grant of $900,000. This is the third year the Green Acres program has funded Arminio Park improvements, bringing the total program financing close to $2.4 million.
The project includes the demolition of the existing field house structure, reorientation of the existing football field along with installation of a synthetic turf field, synthetic outdoor regulation track, new pole vault and shot put facilities, new lighting system, seating and restrooms, tennis court re-surfacing, an ADA compliant toddler playground, passive recreation area with tables, landscaping and drainage improvements.
After four and half years, of planning, Roselle Public Schools hosted the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Arminio Athletic Field in June.
Assemblyman Jamel C. Holley, who represents Roselle in New Jersey’s 20th Legislative District and worked to secure the multi-year Green Acres funding arrangement when he was mayor of Roselle, described the Green Acres program as necessary to improving quality of life around the state.
“These funds provide the financing bedrock that allow us to make great public spaces,” Holley said. “And in those great public spaces are where our towns really shine.”
NJDEP this year approved nearly $81 million for Green Acres projects statewide.
