You don’t need to look far to find local talent in the boroughs. For this segment we were “Out & About” in lower Manhattan to watch Roselle Park’s resident Kelsey Kurz in the Shrunken Shakespeare Company’s Off-Broadway production of “What We Know” An American Retelling of Chekhov’s Three Sisters. Kelsey played Nick one of the three sisters’ Irina’s best friend and potential husband. Kelsey has great stage presence and a remarkable singing voice. He was truly a cast standout.
There is no doubt that Roselle Park cultivates young people into aspiring actors when you look the achievements of Kelsey Kurz. He’s a Roselle Park High School class of 2006 graduate and earned a BA in Acting from the famous The Julliard School.
As diverse and complex as his acting and singing roles have been, the man himself is humbled by those who were an inspiration and encouraged him during his early teens as a Roselle Park High School student. His mentors included Linda Green when he first started acting in Roselle Park’s summer camp theatre program and Eric Witkowski theatre director at RPHS who was “Always on his side.”
Reading has also been an important part in his development as an actor. One of his favorite teachers, Carolyn Burke traded books with him and encouraged him to read.
