ROSELLE PARK, NJ - An attempt to stop a vehicle by Roselle Park police officers quickly turned into a chase and a search for a man who fled the scene.

On June 23, at approximately 2:52 a.m., Patrolman Brian MacDonald attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop with a 2008 Honda for moving and equipment violations, while traveling on the 400 block of W. Westfield Ave.

According to Roselle Park Police, when Patrolman MacDonald activated his overhead emergency lights and siren, the Honda accelerated away from police continuing west bound on W. Westfield Ave. The Honda continued to elude police through the secondary streets of the west side of Roselle Park where it ultimately crashed into a parked unoccupied 2005 Saturn on the 400 block of Faitoute Ave. Police said, the Honda then spun around and crashed into the front end of Patrolman MacDonald’s marked patrol unit causing damage to all three vehicles involved. Police said, no one appeared to be injured during the crash.

The driver of the Honda identified by police as the registered owner, Allyson “Michael” Daniel, age 21 from East Orange, resisted police by fleeing into the back yards on the 400 block of Faitoute and Maplewood Ave. Officers from Roselle, Kenilworth and Union County Sheriffs K-9 were called in to assist, but Daniel was not located.

Later that morning, following an investigation by the Roselle Park Police Detective Bureau led by Detective James Kompany, the driver and owner of the vehicle, Allyson “Michael” Daniel, turned himself into police at approximately 11:00 a.m., without further incident.

Police said, Daniel was ultimately charged with (2nd degree) Eluding, (3rd degree) Aggravated Assault on Police, (3rd degree) Criminal Mischief, and (4th degree) Resisting Arrest.

Bail was set by Roselle Park Municipal Court Judge Gary Bundy at $75,000. Daniel was also issued numerous motor vehicle summonses to include: reckless driving, unlicensed driver, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident. Police said, Daniel was unable to post bail and was lodged into the Union County Jail.

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (Citadel Press, 1970)

How does a reviewer do justice to a book called “the great American novel”? I first read Johnny Got His Gun during the Viet Nam war, when young people, nationwide, were protesting fighting in a war that was a senseless waste of life; a war in which the United States had no business participating.

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

I didn't get my Composition and Literature teacher at Montclair State College at all. A crusty old man with a dour disposition, Mr. Smith always seemed angry and rude. He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.
