ROSELLE PARK, NJ - American television industry journalist, Michael Ausiello returned to his hometown of Roselle Park on Monday evening to discuss his memoir: Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies.

Ausiello first visited his high school and met with the schools Gay/Straight Alliance said, I was really happy to see all anti-bullying posters throughout the school. Later in the evening,  residents and old friends came out to the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library, to watch the candid discussion with Ausiello, conducted by resident and former Mayor, Joe DeIorio. Ausiello also interacted with audience members during the interview and signed copies of his book afterward.

Current Mayor Carl Hokanson stopped in to present a proclamation from the town to Ausiello on all of his achievements. Councilman Thos Shipley also presented Ausiello with a proclamation from the State of New Jersey. Before each proclamation that was read, Ausiello joking asked, “Are they naming the gazebo after me?” That brought laughter to the group and became a running joke throughout the evening.

Ausiello’s book, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies, talks about growing up in Roselle Park in the1980’s and 90’s, his life as a gay man and his personal tragedy with his husband Kit Cowan, who was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive form of neuroendocrine cancer. Over the course of eleven months, Cowan and Ausiello did their best to combat the deadly disease, but Cowan succumbed to his illness in February 2015.

In this heartbreaking and darkly hilarious memoir, Ausiello tells the story of his harrowing and challenging last year with Cowan while revisiting the thirteen years that preceded it, and how the undeniably powerful bond between him and Cowan carried them through all manner of difficulty—always with laughter front and center in their relationship. Instead of a tale of sadness and loss, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies is touted by the people who know him as an unforgettable, inspiring, and beautiful testament to the resilience and strength of true love.
