ELIZABETH/ROSELLE, NJ – Two local non-profit organizations are working together to find housing and other needs for many residents that were left homeless when a fire ripped through their apartment building on 3rd Avenue in Roselle.
The fire broke out in the early morning hours of Feb. 3 on the third floor of the apartment complex and quickly spread throughout the building. Fourteen people with disabilities, along with other residents of the building were quickly evacuated. No one was injured but residents lost most of the valuables and possessions, in addition to a place to live.
Community Access Unlimited, the local nonprofit that supports the fourteen residents with disabilities, is relocating its members and is asking for community support to help furnish their new living quarters and buy new clothes, towels and linens, medical equipment, electronics and personal items to make the new apartments feel like home.
Donations of any size will be appreciated. Specific larger donations can cover:
- $1,000 – Furnish a bedroom
- $750 – Replace a wardrobe of clothes
- $500 – Replace medical equipment and electronics
- $250 – Provide linens and towels
- $100 – Personalize a new living space
Donations may be sent to Community Access Unlimited, c/o Cara Clair, fundraising director, 80 W. Grand St., Elizabeth, NJ 07202. Or donate online at https://www.gofundme.com/CAURoselleFireRecovery.
