Union County Democratic Women's Club Launch Benefits Someone's Daughter Inc

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Over 100 women participated in the launch of the Union County Democratic Women's Club on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Italian American Club in Scotch Plains.

One hundred percent of the donations collected at the door were donated to Someone's Daughter Inc, a community-based, non-profit organization directed by volunteer women with an ultimate goal to educate, encourage and empower young girls.

Someone's Daughter's program is built on several components: academics, culture, image, life skills, sisterhood and networking. They seeks to help girls to develop pride in themselves, their bodies and in their relationships with peers, and to maintain core values that will protect them from negative influences, identify and enhance their leadership skills and support their success as adults.

The event was staffed exclusively by male volunteers who checked in attendees at the door and served food and drinks. Stirling Fine Wines of Stirling, NJ donated all the wine served. Guest bartenders included Assemblyman and Democratic Chairman Jerry Green, Assemblyman Jamel Holley and Assemblyman-Elect James Kennedy, Union County Freeholders Bruce Bergen and Al Mirabella and Union County Manager Al Faella. The event was well attended by Union County Democratic Mayors and Council People, as well as Committee Members.

The evening's program was kicked off by Assemblyman and Democratic Chairman Jerry Green. Someone's Daughter founder and CEO, Natasha Davis, introduced the organization and its mission. Additionally, several young women members gave their elevator speeches to highlight their goals and accomplishments.

The program concluded with an address by Senator Raymond Lesniak and a pinning ceremony of all women in attendance with a Union County Democratic Committee Women's Club Founding Member pin.

The coordinating committee, Angie Devanney, Phyllis Mirabella, Cherron Rountree and Amy Wagner, will be planning events throughout the year with the purpose of fulfilling their mission: Union County Democratic Women empowering our future.  For more information about the Union County Democratic Women's Committee, contact the coordinating committee at
