ROSELLE, NJ – Residents from Roselle and all over Union County were getting in shape on Saturday as the kickoff of the Union County Summer Fitness Series, with a day of family fitness at Warinanco Park featuring celebrity trainer Cara Castronuova of NBC’s The Biggest Loser.

Local fitness groups and businesses participated including, Retro Fitness, CKO Kickboxing, Power and Fitness, Image 2000, Roselle Health Plus, Shims Martial Arts Academy, and Girls on the Run among many others including sponsors Trinitas Hospital and the Coca Cola Company.

The community joined in on an action packed list of activities such as, Tai Chi, Insanity Workout, Kick Boxing Zumba, Tae Kwon Do, Yoga Family Boot Camp and more! Even though the ground was a little wet from the soaking rain that we had the evening before, it didn’t stop people from jumping in and participating in all of the activities.

Girls on the Run is a kid friendly Program that while promoting the exercise, were also teaching the girls positive self esteem techniques. You could see the smiles on the young ladies faces as they were enjoying the days activities.

Trinitas Hospital hosted a tent for information on Health and Wellness and were providing Blood Pressure Screenings for everyone, while the Coca Cola Company was keeping everyone hydrated through the workouts.

Everyone excitedly awaited the arrival of Ms Castronuova the celebrity fitness trainer, athlete, motivation speaker, and television personality. She was featured as a head trainer on NBC’s hit “The Biggest Loser,” Season 11, where she helped propel the show to its highest ratings ever.

Ms. Castronuova spoke about her project and spoke one on one with anyone that wanted to meet and talk with her. One young man stood out out the crowd. A’Jaron (Jay) Hedges who will be attending the “Camp Kid Warrior Camp” this summer for two weeks in upstate New York.  He is being sponsored by Trinitas Hospital. There is another young lady being sponsored from Roselle who will also be attending the camp. (Her name had not been released yet at the time of this story release). Ms Castronuova was heard telling Jay that they would be canoeing, boxing, hiking and catching frogs. When jay was asked what he was looking forward to the most he said, “seeing bears and exercising".

“Events like these highlight local businesses and community organizations and allow people to discover new and fun ways to stay active,” said the Mayor of Roselle, Jamel Holley, “It is an exciting and promising endeavor for everyone involved.”   

Participating at the event where Union County Freeholders Linda Carter, Mohamad Jalloh, Sergio Granados, and Vernell Wright. The program was sponsored by the Board of Chosen Freeholders in partnership with Roselle Mayor Jamel C. Holley and Roselle Borough Council & Roselle Department of Recreation, along with the Urban League of Union County and the Coca-Cola Company.
