ROSELLE, NJ - It was definitely a “Battle of the Badges” on Sunday morning as the Roselle Fire Dept. came to defend their title once again, against the Roselle Police Dept. in the Annual Battalion Chief Johnny Lynn Softball Game, played at Roselle Catholic High School.

The event now in its 3rd year, is a tribute to Battalion Chief John Lynn a longtime firefighter and a member of Roselle FMBA Local 255, who was laid to rest on May 23, 2014. The Lynn family was at the game and the first pitch of the game was by Lynn’s daughter Deanne Lynn who threw to her brother John Lynn Jr. a Roselle Police Officer. Anna Mae, Lynn’s wife, watched on and was later presented with the game ball.

Both departments hit the field giving it their all in the hopes of winning the coveted trophy and most importantly, bragging rights!

In the first inning the police came out swinging and took the lead showing they were ready to play. It stayed that way for just a few innings and then the firemen “turned up the heat” and there was no stopping them.

There was no stopping the banter between these guys either as they went inning after inning smack talking each other, all in good fun.

Video highlights can be viewed below.

After a very hard fought game, it was Roselle Fire once again smoking Roselle Police and retaining their title as “Champions” with a score of 38-14.
