SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - A call for a recount of the votes from Roselle’s June 6, Democratic Primary Election showed candidates Cynthia Johnson (Third Ward), and Denise Wilkerson (First Ward), did win their elections.

A recount for the Third Ward and First Ward was held on Wednesday morning in Scotch Plains, at one of the Union County Board of Elections facilities after a legal request for a recount was submitted and filed on June 22. The recount request was made by Third Ward Councilwoman Andrea Staten, who was running to retain her seat, and Board of Education member Richard Villeda, who was running for First Ward Councilman, both wanting a recount the all of the ballots in those two wards. 

In the First Ward there were 550 ballots cast with Wilkerson winning by 16 votes. In the Third Ward, 549 ballots were cast and Johnson won by 24 votes. Wednesdays recount also took in consideration the mail-in and provisional ballots. Todays recount showed to be correct except for one ballot was picked up for Johnson.

Candidates Wilkerson and Johnson were present at the recount, a representative was n hand for Staten and Villeda. 

The results will be finalized later today by the Union County Board of Elections.
